ALEX GRAY BIO-
From age 12 into Alex’s early 20’s, Alex was entirely focused on competing in professional surf events.
When Alex reached 22, he was dealt a devastating blow. After returning home from a trip to Hawaii, he was diagnosed with pleurisy due to—an infection of the membranes that coat the lungs and chest. Hours of surgery helped remove the build-up of fluid in his chest, but the recovery process kept him out of the water for months.
By the time he was finally ready to start competing again, his ranking had dropped dramatically—he went from 49th to somewhere around 1,000.
Thanks to the support of his sponsors, he then switched his game plan. The South Bay surfer focused less on “chasing points” and more on riding challenging, formidable waves across the world.
